Vancouverites Luv East Vancouver, It's increasingly becoming a desirable
place to live with it's diverse blend of ethnic communities, vibrant
artistic presence, and strong politically engaged youth dynamic.
Neighbourhood improvement projects and green spaces as well as the locally
grown niche businesses have added to this desirability. East Van covers a
vast area in Metro Vancouver and there are lots of neighbourhoods within it,
each with it's own unique flavor and sense of community. In fact, I think it
is so great that I am happy to explore the area with you if you are
considering buying a home in East Van where we can check out some of my
favorite neighbourhoods including Commercial drive or "The Drive" as it is
known. It's always been a favorite of Vancouverites. Historically an Italian
and Portuguese community, it was known as "Little Italy" in the 1950s. Since
that time, immigrants from Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East
and elsewhere have created an
ethnically diverse community which consistently ranks high by city residents
for everything from best restaurants to best potential hipster hangout.
For the biking aficionado, "the Drive" easily connects to the downtown core
using the Union Bikeway where you will peddle past some of Vancouver's
oldest homes in the Strathcona area, and where there are a lot of possibilities
for heritage remodelling buffs. In East Van, you will find more corner
grocery-cafés that are actually a part of the neighbourhood, like Finch's,
the Wilder Snail or Union Market where you can sit on the sidewalk patio and
eat traditional Portuguese foods.
Another favorite neighbourhood in East Vancouver is Main Street in the Mount
Pleasant area consistently voted Vancouver's "Best Shopping Destination" and
"Favourite Shopping Street". An interesting blend of with antique stores and
one-of-a-kind vintage stores make main street a fashionista's paradise. East
Van may not have any beaches but it has a fantastic 27 hectare park called
John Hendry Park (Trout Lake) that includes an Olympic ice rink. There is a
lot of great things I could say about East Van but mostly I like it because
its an attractive place to live owing to a strong sense of community,
close proximity to the Downtown core and because there is an abundance of
single-detached homes that are reasonably affordable. Where some areas of
Vancouver may have peaked in terms of their investment potential, East Van
is still attractive for home reno's, it's truly a gem for buyers who want to
revamp a home for investment purposes or simply to live comforatably.
